  1. Vatican publishes 'A Journey of Hope' on sixty years of Nostra Aetate

    Three dicasteries jointly published a note on interreligious dialogue since 1965, approved by Leo XIV on 22 June. It presents Nostra Aetate as the Church's response to the Shoah and includes a section on dialogue with the Jewish people.

  1. Leo XIV: 'the Church does not tolerate antisemitism'

    A day after commemorating Nostra Aetate's 60th anniversary, Leo XIV told his general audience that the Church does not tolerate antisemitism and fights it on the basis of the Gospel. He described the declaration's affirmation of Christianity's Jewish roots as "a point of no return".

  2. Former SSPX bishop Richard Williamson dies at 84

    Richard Williamson, one of the four bishops consecrated by Archbishop Lefebvre in 1988, died on 29 January 2025 aged 84. Expelled from the SSPX in 2012, he had incurred excommunication again in 2015 by consecrating a bishop in Brazil without papal mandate; his televised Holocaust denial in 2009 had led to a conviction for incitement in Germany.

  1. Commentator Candace Owens announces she has been received into the Catholic Church

    Political commentator and podcaster Candace Owens announced on social media that she had been received into the Catholic Church at the Brompton Oratory in London, calling it a "decision to go home". Her conversion, a month after her split from The Daily Wire, drew wide coverage and debate in Catholic media over her statements about Jews.

  1. Speakers quit Patrick Coffin's Hope Is Fuel conference over papacy and antisemitism concerns

    OSV News reported that Fr. Robert Spitzer, Jeff Cavins and Jennifer Roback Morse, along with 17 other speakers, had withdrawn from Patrick Coffin's 24 May online Hope Is Fuel conference after Coffin questioned the legitimacy of Pope Francis. Morse said she withdrew on learning it also featured E. Michael Jones, whose writings the ADL describes as antisemitic.

  1. Bishop Rhoades of Fort Wayne–South Bend issues statement against anti-Jewish bias

    Bishop Kevin Rhoades said the Church gives no cover to anti-Jewish bias. Press coverage read the statement as an indirect rebuke of E. Michael Jones, editor of the South Bend magazine Culture Wars.

  1. Vatican commission publishes 'The Gifts and the Calling of God Are Irrevocable'

    Marking the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate 4, the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews published a theological reflection, not a magisterial text. It states that the Church neither conducts nor supports any specific institutional mission work directed towards Jews.

  1. SSPX expels Bishop Richard Williamson

    The Society of Saint Pius X expelled Richard Williamson, citing his distancing from the Society's leadership and his refusal to show due respect and obedience to his superiors. He had opposed the Society's talks with Rome.

2009

  1. Swedish TV airs SSPX bishop Williamson's Holocaust denial

    Swedish television broadcast an interview in which Richard Williamson denied the existence of Nazi gas chambers. It aired as Benedict XVI lifted the excommunications of the four SSPX bishops. The Vatican said the pope had not known of his views and required him to disavow them publicly; he never did.

1965

  1. Vatican II promulgates Nostra Aetate on the Church and non-Christian religions

    Paul VI proclaimed the conciliar declaration Nostra Aetate. Its section 4 teaches that Christ's Passion cannot be charged against all Jews then living or against Jews today, and it decries antisemitism. See Judaism and antisemitism.
