About TradWatch™

Mission

Last updated

We document what traditionalist Catholic media actually says, in context, and answer it with verifiable facts and citations — including the Church's own teaching.

Why this matters

Traditionalist channels, podcasts and publications reach a large audience, much of it young and earnest. Some of what they publish is careful and well argued. Some of it misstates Church teaching, history or science, and some of it spreads hostility toward the Pope, the bishops, other Catholics or other faiths. Most of it is never checked against the record. We check it.

What we stand for

  • Accuracy first. Every claim we discuss is quoted exactly and linked to its source. Every answer we give is sourced.
  • The Church's own words. Where doctrine is at issue, we cite the Catechism, the Second Vatican Council, papal documents, the Code of Canon Law and the Holy See's dicasteries, by paragraph — so readers can check for themselves.
  • Fairness. We analyse public statements, not people. We describe positions in the words their holders use, and we give the people we write about a right of reply.
  • Calm. No mockery, no labels, no speculation about anyone's motives or private life. The sources do the work.
  • Accountability. When we get something wrong, we correct it openly and log it on our corrections page.

What we are not

We are not a campaign against the traditional liturgy, or against Catholics who love it. Attachment to the older forms of the Mass is a legitimate part of Catholic life, and many people who attend it have nothing to do with the claims we examine. Our subject is specific public statements made by public figures and outlets — and whether those statements hold up.
