About John Salza
John Salza is an American attorney and Catholic apologist. A publisher's listing for his book Why Catholics Cannot Be Masons (TAN Books) describes him as a Catholic attorney and former 32nd-degree Mason (TAN Books). According to an encyclopedia entry, he was invited into Freemasonry after law school, later received the 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite in a Wisconsin lodge, then left and set out his case in the book Masonry Unmasked (es-academic). He has discussed his books on Masonry on Catholic radio (Wilmington Catholic Radio). See Freemasonry and conspiracy claims.
True or False Pope? With Robert Siscoe, Salza wrote True or False Pope? Refuting Sedevacantism and Other Modern Errors (2015), a long rebuttal of sedevacantism with a foreword by Bernard Fellay, then superior general of the Society of St. Pius X. The SSPX's US news site presented the book as a refutation of sedevacantism (SSPX.org), and the Saint Benedict Center's Catholicism.org interviewed Salza about it (Catholicism.org). See True or False Pope?.
Salza and Siscoe have argued against sedevacantist writers in The Remnant, including in exchanges with the sedevacantist priest Anthony Cekada (The Remnant). The two also published, through The Remnant, a rebuttal of Paul Kramer's arguments that Pope Francis had lost or never held the papacy (The Remnant).
Position on the SSPX. Although the book carried an SSPX bishop's foreword, a description of a later episode of The Logos Project podcast says Salza has written many articles criticising Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre and the SSPX (The Logos Project). He has also discussed schism, the SSPX and sedevacantism as a guest on the Pints with Aquinas podcast (Podscripts). His arguments on how a pope could lose office are part of the wider recognize-and-resist debate.
