Robert Siscoe

Robert Siscoe is a Catholic writer known chiefly as co-author, with John Salza, of True or False Pope? Refuting Sedevacantism and Other Modern Errors (2015), a book of roughly 700 pages arguing against sedevacantism from papal, conciliar and patristic sources (FSSPX Asia; SSPX.org). The book carried a foreword by Bernard Fellay. One endorser, Fr. Brian Harrison, described the authors as avowed traditionalists who criticise the revised liturgy and certain teachings of Vatican II (True or False Pope?). See True or False Pope?.

Writing on a heretical pope. In The Remnant, Siscoe published a three-part 2013 series considering whether a pope can lose his office through manifest heresy (The Remnant), and an article titled "Can the Church Depose an Heretical Pope?". In a follow-up reply to a sedevacantist critic he wrote that neither he nor the theologian John of St. Thomas had taught that a general council "deposes" a heretical pope, a view he said the article rejected as a variant of conciliarism (The Remnant). The blogger Alexis Bugnolo, who argues that Benedict XVI's resignation was invalid, has read Siscoe's position differently, arguing in January 2025 that Siscoe holds the Church can depose a heretical pope in council (FromRome.info); the two accounts conflict.

With Salza he has publicly debated sedevacantist writers, including the priest Anthony Cekada (The Remnant), and co-wrote a Remnant rebuttal of Paul Kramer's claims about the papacy of Francis (The Remnant).
