Brian M. McCall

Brian M. McCall is an American legal academic and Catholic writer. In 2018 the University of Oklahoma student newspaper, the OU Daily, described him as an OU law professor who also served as associate dean for academic affairs and associate director of the OU Law Center.

Catholic Family News. McCall became editor-in-chief of Catholic Family News (CFN) on 1 June 2018, following the death of its long-time editor John Vennari (Catholic Family News). Shortly afterwards he interviewed Fr. Niklaus Pfluger, then first assistant of the SSPX (Wikipedia). The OU Daily reported on the appointment, noting that the Southern Poverty Law Center lists CFN as a hate group, citing views of its former editor; the paper reported that McCall described the editorship as a personal commitment separate from his university duties (OU Daily). In 2024–2025 he co-hosted CFN's weekly news-roundup podcast, whose episode titles covered the death of SSPX Bishop Tissier de Mallerais, the 2025 conclave and restrictions on the traditional Latin Mass (Buzzsprout; Buzzsprout). CFN announced that its December 2025 issue would be its last (Wikipedia).

Public positions. McCall was one of the nineteen original signatories of an open letter to the world's bishops, made public on 30 April 2019, that accused Pope Francis of heresy (Catholic World Report/CNA; The Tablet); see papal-critique and resistance media. His book To Build the City of God: Living as Catholics in a Secular Age (Angelico Press, 2014), with a foreword by Christopher Ferrara, applies Catholic social teaching to family, dress, education, wealth, debt and politics (Angelico Press; OU Law Digital Commons).
