  1. Vatican grants nihil obstat to devotion at Medjugorje

    In the note The Queen of Peace, the DDF granted a nihil obstat to the spiritual phenomena of Medjugorje and approved devotion at the shrine, without declaring the apparitions supernatural; the messages remain 'alleged'.

  2. DDF issues new norms for discerning alleged apparitions

    The new norms, in force from 19 May 2024, replaced those of 1978. As a rule, no Church authority will declare a phenomenon supernatural, even when a nihil obstat is granted. Bishops propose one of six verdicts, which the Dicastery must confirm.

  1. Bishop of Santander says there are 'no signs of supernaturality' at Garabandal

    Bishop Manuel Sánchez Monge restated that the alleged 1961–1965 apparitions at Garabandal have not been recognised. He objected that organisers of a 'Madrid with Garabandal' event had not consulted him. CNA reported his statement on 21 October 2022.

  2. Pope Francis consecrates Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

    During a penitential service at St Peter's, with a parallel act at Fátima, Francis consecrated Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart. The Fatima Center called the ceremony solemn but said it was not the consecration Our Lady had requested.

  1. Canadian bishops disavow Fr. Michel Rodrigue's prophecies

    Bishop Gilles Lemay of Amos disavowed the messages and prophecies of Fr. Michel Rodrigue, which had spread online, including via the site Countdown to the Kingdom. Bishop Robert Bourgon of Hearst-Moosonee followed six days later.

  1. Fr. Nicholas Gruner, founder of The Fatima Center, dies

    Nicholas Gruner, who founded the Fatima Crusaders (now The Fatima Center) in 1978 and whose canonical suspension was disputed for years, died while working in the Center's office in Fort Erie, Ontario.

  1. Vatican publishes the third part of the Fatima secret with Ratzinger's commentary

    The CDF document The Message of Fatima published all three parts of the secret with a theological commentary by Cardinal Ratzinger, who wrote that no great mystery is revealed. The Fatima Center and its founder Nicholas Gruner disputed that the disclosure was complete.

  1. Bishop of Niigata authorises veneration of Our Lady of Akita

    Bishop John Shojiro Ito of Niigata, Japan, authorised veneration of "the Holy Mother of Akita" in his diocese while awaiting a definitive judgment from the Holy See. EWTN's editors doubt that any later formal Vatican decree on Akita exists.
