Timothy Gordon

Timothy J. Gordon is an American Catholic author and podcaster who hosts the Rules for Retrogrades (R4R) podcast, which directories list as running since 2019 and which is distributed through Apple Podcasts, YouTube and Rumble (Apple Podcasts; IMDb). Author biographies say he studied philosophy at pontifical universities in Europe, taught philosophy at community colleges in Southern California and later attended law school (Strange Notions). With his brother David Gordon he co-wrote Rules for Retrogrades: Forty Tactics to Defeat the Radical Left (TAN Books, 2020) (Everand); he also wrote Catholic Republic (Sophia Institute Press).

In 2019 he debated Catholic Answers apologist Trent Horn; Catholic Answers published their exchange on whether Christians can be feminists (Catholic Answers).

In June 2020 Gordon, who had taught for seven years at Garces Memorial, a Catholic high school in Bakersfield, California, lost that job after posting on 3 June that Black Lives Matter was a terrorist organisation; National Review's John Hirschauer, writing as a friend of Gordon's, argued that his employment was ended swiftly after the comment (National Review). He discussed the dismissal on The Patrick Coffin Show (Patrick Coffin Media). In January 2021 the National Catholic Reporter, covering an appearance by EWTN's Fr. Mitch Pacwa on Gordon's show, called him a "right-wing internet personality" and reported that he had come under fire for labelling Black Lives Matter a terrorist organisation and had often voiced support for the Proud Boys on social media (NCR). LifeSiteNews reported that Patreon suspended his account under its hate-speech rules after criticism of what LifeSite called the LGBT agenda (LifeSiteNews).

Much of his output concerns marriage and the roles of men and women. A sympathetic profile in TheBlaze described him as a self-described traditionalist Catholic who regards anything short of male-led households and an all-male clergy as a "false gospel" (TheBlaze); see Women, modesty and the family.

His guests and appearances have also drawn attention. One R4R episode on Rumble is titled "E. Michael Jones on Christian Antisemitism" (Rumble); the Anti-Defamation League describes Jones's writings as antisemitic (ADL).
