About Rules for Retrogrades (R4R)
Rules for Retrogrades (R4R) is a podcast and video programme hosted by Catholic author Timothy Gordon. Podcast directories list the series as running from 2019, and it is distributed on Apple Podcasts and other podcast apps as well as on Gordon's YouTube and Rumble channels, which are linked from his website (Apple Podcasts; IMDb; timothyjgordon.com). The show shares its name with the 2020 TAN Books title Rules for Retrogrades: Forty Tactics to Defeat the Radical Left, which Gordon co-wrote with his brother David (Everand).
The programme mixes Catholic commentary with politics and culture. Recurring subjects include marriage, wifely submission and male authority, feminism and current events; one Rumble video, for example, is titled "Timothy Gordon Explains: What Womanly Submission Really Means" (Rumble), and Gordon also appears as a guest on other traditionalist channels to discuss topics such as the SSPX and FSSP (Rumble).
The show has attracted criticism and scrutiny. In January 2021 the National Catholic Reporter reported on an appearance by EWTN host Fr. Mitch Pacwa on the R4R YouTube show, describing Gordon as a "right-wing internet personality" (NCR). One episode is titled "E. Michael Jones on Christian Antisemitism" (Rumble); the ADL describes Jones's writings as antisemitic (ADL). LifeSiteNews reported that Patreon suspended Gordon's account, after which he directed supporters to other platforms (LifeSiteNews).
