Michael Lofton

Michael Lofton is a Catholic apologist, author and the founder and host of Reason & Theology (R&T Media), which he started on 17 January 2019. According to the show's about page and his Catholic Answers biography, he holds a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Christendom College's graduate school (2018) and is pursuing a doctorate in theology through Pontifex University with a dissertation on the Church's magisterium (Reason & Theology; Catholic Answers). The Coming Home Network's profile describes his path into the Catholic Church from Baptist and Presbyterian congregations (Coming Home Network).

Books. His Answering Orthodoxy: A Catholic Response to Attacks from the East was published by Catholic Answers Press in 2023 and reviewed by Catholic World Report (Catholic World Report); Goodreads also lists his earlier book Church Chaos (Goodreads).

Responses to traditionalist media. Lofton regularly answers traditionalist commentators, most often Taylor Marshall: R&T maintains a site category devoted to Marshall (Reason & Theology), and its videos and posts have criticised what Lofton called Marshall's use of sedevacantist arguments (YouTube), a November 2023 livestream (Reason & Theology) and what he presented as Cardinal Joseph Zen's attempt to correct Marshall and Carlo Maria Viganò (Reason & Theology). He has argued against sedevacantism, including in a January 2024 post (Reason & Theology) and as a guest of Trent Horn on Catholic Answers' Counsel of Trent (Catholic Answers). The Francis-supporting site Where Peter Is has praised his work (Where Peter Is).

TradWatch lists Lofton as a prominent critic of traditionalist media; see trad online culture and papal authority and recognize-and-resist.
