About Where Peter Is

Where Peter Is (WPI) is a Catholic commentary website. Its about page dates its launch to 2018 and credits a group of committed Catholics; its Patreon page describes it as having begun as a small blog started by four lay Catholics in early 2018 (Where Peter Is; Patreon). Mike Lewis is its founding managing editor (Where Peter Is).

Note: TradWatch™ lists WPI as a critic of traditionalist media, not as part of it. Lewis described the site in 2021 as dedicated to defending Catholic teaching and the pope from attacks by Pope Francis's fiercest critics (Millennial Journal), and an America podcast described it in 2023 as countering criticism of Francis from a small but vocal resistance in the U.S. Church (Apple Podcasts).

Coverage. WPI regularly answers traditionalist outlets and figures. Examples include articles on the closure of Church Militant (WPI), on Raymond Arroyo's EWTN coverage (WPI), on the views of the exorcist Chad Ripperger (WPI), on Fr. James Altman (WPI), on whether the Second Vatican Council is binding on the SSPX (WPI) and on the July 2026 decree of excommunication following the SSPX consecrations (WPI). It has also praised the work of Michael Lofton (WPI). Its about page marks the death of Pope Francis on 21 April 2025, and its newer commentary addresses the pontificate of Leo XIV (Where Peter Is; WPI).

Criticism. The Catholic Herald has published a critical article accusing the site of double standards on dissent and describing it as a clearing house for articles defending Francis (The Catholic Herald). See papal-critique and resistance media.
