About Raymond Arroyo

Raymond Arroyo is news director and lead anchor of EWTN News, the news division of the Eternal Word Television Network. According to his own biography, he established EWTN News and the weekly programme The World Over in 1996 and hosts it from Washington, D.C. (raymondarroyo.com; Catholic Answers profile). Speaker-bureau biographies list earlier work for the Associated Press, the New York Observer and the columnists Evans and Novak, and describe him as a Fox News contributor and co-host, with Laura Ingraham, of Fox Nation's Laura & Raymond (Premiere Speakers). His biography of EWTN's founder, Mother Angelica (Doubleday), was reviewed by Publishers Weekly.

The "Papal Posse." The World Over regularly features a panel with Fr. Gerald Murray, a New York archdiocesan priest, and Robert Royal, founder of The Catholic Thing. America wrote that the panellists riff on one another's criticisms of Pope Francis, that guests critical of Francis such as Cardinals Raymond Burke and Gerhard Müller appeared often, and that the show gave uncritical interviews to figures such as Steve Bannon. In December 2018 Cardinal Wilfrid Napier accused Arroyo of attacking Francis (LifeSiteNews). The blog Where Peter Is, which defends Francis, has argued that the segment's coverage of him was incomplete and dismissive (Where Peter Is). Defenders, including the blog The American Catholic, said such criticism ignored his record (The American Catholic). EWTN has denied any anti-Francis bias (Slate).

In September 2021 Francis criticised an unnamed Catholic television channel in remarks widely read as aimed at EWTN (America). In 2020 he interviewed Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, who denied accusations made against him in the Vatican's McCarrick Report (CWR).

Leo XIV. After Leo's election in May 2025, Arroyo noted the new pope's support for immigrants and the poor (Mediaite). An NCR opinion writer said he had called Leo's record a mixed bag on Fox (NCR). He interviewed Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the new pontificate (National Catholic Register). The Papal Posse was still airing in December 2025 (EWTN UK), and an episode of his podcast Arroyo Grande asked whether Leo is "Francis 2.0" (Apple Podcasts). See From mainstream to the margins.
