About Nick Fuentes
Nick Fuentes is an American livestreamer and political commentator, online since 2017, whose followers are known as "Groypers" (National Catholic Reporter; Religion News Service). The Anti-Defamation League estimated his combined following at about 724,000 across social-media profiles as of March 2025 (ADL); later reporting gave higher figures, with The Jewish Independent putting his following in December 2025 at about 1.1 million on X and 557,000 on Rumble (The Jewish Independent). Media Matters for America, a progressive media watchdog, describes him as a white nationalist and Holocaust denier and reported in 2023 that he streamed on Rumble several times a week (Media Matters; Media Matters).
He is included here because Catholic and religion reporting increasingly treats him as a voice in online, traditionalist-leaning Catholic culture. The National Catholic Reporter wrote that he frames his alt-right politics in the language of Catholic tradition, promoting what he calls a "return to Christian moral order", and that he has challenged Nostra Aetate, the 1965 Vatican II declaration that affirmed the shared spiritual heritage of Catholics and Jews and condemned antisemitism (National Catholic Reporter). Religion News Service reported in April 2026 that he presents a traditionalist Catholicism that rejects Vatican II and is mired in antisemitism, and that he has gained much more attention since the death of Charlie Kirk in September 2025 (Religion News Service). His own statements on the council vary: the traditionalist publication Integrity Magazine has cited a broadcast in which, by its account, he said that although Vatican II was not to his liking, Catholics must do what the pope says (Integrity Magazine).
The 2023 FBI Richmond memo on "radical-traditionalist" Catholics named Fuentes while distinguishing such groups from Catholics who simply prefer the Traditional Latin Mass (Detroit Catholic). Catholic commentators have responded to him, including a November 2025 Catholic World Report commentary on him and "the rise of the woke right" (Catholic World Report), and a 2025 Jerusalem Post opinion column arguing that the Vatican must respond publicly to him and Candace Owens (Jerusalem Post). For the Church's teaching on Jews and antisemitism see Nostra Aetate §4 and Judaism and antisemitism; see also Catholic nationalism and the online right.
