About New Liturgical Movement (NLM)

New Liturgical Movement (NLM) is a long-running English-language blog about Catholic liturgy, sacred music and liturgical art, including the traditional Roman rite. It was founded in August 2005 by Shawn Tribe and took its name from writings of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who had been elected pope a few months earlier (NLM). Jeffrey Tucker became editor in 2013; in December 2015 managing editor Gregory DiPippo succeeded him at the invitation of the publisher, William Mahrt, president of the Church Music Association of America, which NLM then described as its sponsor (NLM). In a 2021 post DiPippo noted that he had by then run the site for longer than its founder (NLM). The site's August 2026 anniversary post credited Tribe as founder, named Fr. Robert Pasley as publisher and reported that the blog had passed 18,000 posts in May 2026 (NLM).

Contributors and coverage. NLM announced the April 2023 launch of Peter Kwasniewski's Substack, Tradition & Sanity (NLM), and in 2024 reviewed two books by Joseph Shaw, chairman of the Latin Mass Society (NLM).

Context. The blog predates Benedict XVI's 2007 motu proprio Summorum Pontificum and has continued through the restrictions of Traditionis custodes (see liturgy law). It sits within the canonically regular world described in Ecclesia Dei communities and the Latin Mass movement.
