Archbishop Viganò says the Church hierarchy “remains silent” on the French riots. The Archbishop of Paris condemned the violence the same day
In a statement published by LifeSiteNews, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò says the hierarchy, instead of calling souls back to order and justice, “remains silent—or worse, acquiesces.” On 19 October, the same day, Archbishop Laurent Ulrich of Paris published a statement saying that blind violence can never, under any pretext, be a legitimate response.

Verifiable fact What the Archbishop of Paris said
On Monday 19 October Archbishop Laurent Ulrich published a statement on the violence of 17 and 18 October. He wrote that Paris had been “comme défigurée” (as if disfigured) by it, named the injured police officers and firefighters, the shopkeepers who lost “les efforts de toute une vie” and the journalists attacked, and said that “en aucun cas, sous aucun prétexte, la violence aveugle, qui blesse, vole, incendie, ne peut être une réponse légitime” (in no case, under no pretext, can blind violence that wounds, steals and burns be a legitimate response). He asked Catholics to be “artisans de paix” and to pray for the country (Diocese of Paris).

TradWatch analysis Not silence, though perhaps not the message he wants
Both statements appeared on 19 October, so Archbishop Viganò may have written before the Paris statement was published. But the bishop of the city most affected did speak, plainly condemning the violence and calling for peace. Archbishop Viganò’s wider charge, that the hierarchy serves a “globalist technocratic elite”, is his own interpretation and is not something a fact-check can settle.

Bottom line
Misleading: the Archbishop of Paris condemned the riots on 19 October, saying blind violence can never be a legitimate response, so the hierarchy has not been silent.
