Robert Moynihan

Robert Moynihan is the founder and editor-in-chief of Inside the Vatican, a magazine he launched in 1993 (Inside the Vatican). His magazine's biography says he holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard and a doctorate in medieval studies from Yale, and that he interviewed Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, later Benedict XVI, more than 25 times. It also says he was Fox News's lead analyst during the conclave that elected Pope Francis on 13 March 2013. These details are self-reported. His 2013 book on Francis, Pray for Me, was published by Random House (Penguin Random House). He also writes a newsletter, the "Moynihan Letters," published on the magazine's website.

Viganò. Moynihan describes Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò as a long-standing contact. His book Finding Viganò (TAN Books, 2020) is based on recorded conversations that, according to the magazine and the publisher, took place over several days in 2019 at an undisclosed location (Inside the Vatican). The publisher's description stresses Moynihan's personal friendship with Viganò. In 2021, according to the Christian Post (as republished by BishopAccountability.org), Moynihan relayed Viganò's warning that a "doctrinal abuse" scandal was undermining Church teaching (BishopAccountability.org). Inside the Vatican reported and carried Viganò's statements during the 2024 schism proceedings against him (Viganò's excommunication). In August 2024 America quoted Moynihan, as editor-in-chief of Inside the Vatican, on Viganò's background. He discussed Viganò on The Patrick Coffin Show.

On Francis. After Francis's September 2021 remarks about a Catholic television channel that criticised him, in which he called such attacks on the Church the work of the devil (America), Moynihan published a newsletter titled "From the devil."
