About Gloria.tv
Gloria.tv is a multilingual Catholic video-sharing and news website. According to its Wikipedia article, which summarises German- and English-language press reports and carries maintenance warnings, it was launched in Switzerland in 2005 and co-founded by the priest Reto Nay with Markus Doppelbauer. The same article says it appeared in 2017 to be based in Moldova with a contact address in Moscow, that its registered office moved that year to Dover, Delaware, and that since 2019 it has been presented as a production of Church Social Media Inc. (Wikipedia). Wikipedia also describes its news staff as highly critical of the papacy. The site hosts user-uploaded devotional and liturgical video alongside short news items in several languages.
The site has drawn repeated criticism in German-speaking media. According to the German edition of Vice, a user-posted text that downplayed the Holocaust appeared on the site in January 2009 and remained online for months (Vice), and Wikipedia reports that Nay declined to delete it, telling a diocesan newspaper in Linz that the whole Catholic spectrum was needed. In 2013 the German weekly Jungle World reported physical confrontations between a Spiegel TV crew and Nay and other gloria.tv staff (Jungle World); according to Wikipedia, Nay's Swiss parish ended his appointment and the Bishop of Chur withdrew his office in March 2013, steps Nay called a witch-hunt.
TradWatch has not found recent independent reporting on the site's ownership, staffing or audience, and the ownership details above should be treated as reported rather than confirmed. See trad online culture and papal-critique and resistance media.
