About Corrispondenza Romana

Corrispondenza Romana is an Italian Catholic news agency directed by the historian Roberto de Mattei, who also presides over the Rome-based Lepanto Foundation and directs the magazine Radici Cristiane (Angelico Press; Catholic Education Resource Center). It publishes Church news and commentary, including editorials by its director; in 2016 a column in the Catholic daily Avvenire discussed one such editorial on migration (Avvenire). Some articles appear in both Italian and English (Inside the Vatican).

The agency's outlook reflects its director's published positions, including his critical history of the Second Vatican Council and his public criticism of aspects of Pope Francis's pontificate (Wikipedia).

Notable items. In June 2019, the Brazilian news site IHU, reprinting an item from the blog Il Sismografo, noted that a footnote in Pope Francis's address to papal representatives linked to an article on Corrispondenza Romana, which it called a well-known publication of Professor de Mattei (IHU). In June 2021 the site published de Mattei's article 'The Viganò Case: The Archbishop and His Double', in Italian and English, alleging that many letters signed by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò had been written by one or more other people; Viganò called the allegation completely false (Inside the Vatican; The Remnant). In November 2025 it carried de Mattei's criticism of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith's doctrinal note on Marian titles, which was relayed by InfoVaticana (InfoVaticana).

Status. The agency was publishing as of late 2025. Its founding date could not be independently verified for this profile.
